NRW Trophy 2011 is over now. We hope you enjoyed your days in Dortmund and we`ll get to see you next year once again. We are proud to tell you, that our NRW Trophy, which started as little competition years ago, now has grown to the biggest ice dancing competition in the world.
We recieved many positive comments about the Trophy. Oleg Ovsyannikov, a coach of the Czech Republic, mentioned, that there are not many competitions especially for dance and that therefore NRW Trophy is such a popular competition. Nathalya Dubova who comes from Russia as well but at the moment works as a coach in Turkey said "It`s a special atmosphere here, Dortmund is like a home. Everybody is caring, it`s a great hospitality. And the OC Team is great. They work all together and everything is done very fast. It`s a competition with world class couples and as a coach I like the discussion between the coaches. And I always feel well received of the Ice Dancing coach of Dortmund Vitali Schulz. I think, as long as I am a coach, I will come here." Former world champion Maurizio Margaglio of Italy who is at the moment working as a coach for Finland told us "I am very pleased to come to Dortmund. 16 years ago I participated in my first European Championships in Dortmund. It`s nice to be here again and remember the old storys". There`s only one case to criticize Italy`s Valter Rizzo said: "The competition is very good. The facilities are good, the hotel is good. It`s a very succesful competition. Everything is fine except of one thing and that`s Vitali`s (Schulz) coffee. I think to have to bring him a good coffee machine next year. As I am Italian I can`t accept such a bad coffee."

Germany's Tanja KOLBE / Stefano CARUSO skated off with the gold medal in the Senior competition on Sunday at NRW Trophy. Charlene GUIGNARD / Marco FABBRI (ITA) vaulted from sixth place to take the silver and the bronze went to Carolina HERMANN / Daniel HERMANN. KOLBE / CARUSO scored 131,51 overall. "It`s a nice atmosphere here at Dortmund, we like the competition. It`s our third competition in this season and our performance gets better and better. The Short Dance went really well and the Free Dance was very good as well, just in one lift Stefano fell because we were not going into it together." Tanja Kolbe commented.
On their website they wrote "Today we are very happy because it was the first time since we are skating together that we won an international competition." Stefano made a compliment to the audience: "It was strange especially for me skating here in Dortmund, now that since one year I represent this country. I felt like home…the public was so warm, they were clapping for us…it was something special I have to admit…that’s why perhaps I was also a little bit nervous…". Their coach Barbara Fusar-Poli was pretty satisfied as well as her second pair Charlene GUIGNARD / Marco FABBRI (129,95) took the silver. Their short dance didn`t went so well, but the delivered a beautiful free dance and were rewarded with the silver medal.
To the delight of the homecrowd Carolina HERMANN / Daniel HERMANN totaled 126,38 points and defend theird third place. "We don`t care about the place today, we just care about our performance. The last time was not that easy for us. We didn`t compete in the last season due to injuries. We couldn`t participate at the last years Trophy, because of my knee operation, which took a long time to cure. As well Daniel had a rupture and we weren`t able to train. Coming out from the injuries and to deliver a solid performance was our aim. I`m satisfied with our performance. We are very happy to be back here in this place because we like the competition here and Dortmund as well. The audience was very supportive and helped us to perform as well as we did." Carolina Hermann commented.

Ksenia KOROBKOVA / Daniil GLEIKHENGAUZ of Russia danced to victory in the high leveld junior competition on Sunday at NRW Trophy. Germany's Shari KOCH / Christian NÜCHTERN claimed the silver medal and the bronze went to Valeriya LOSEVA / Denis LUNIN of Russia.
Ksenia KOROBKOVA / Daniil GLEIKHENGAUZ defendet their lead after the Short Dance and racked up 131,48 points with their beautiful program. Shari KOCH / Christian NÜCHTERN produced an flawlessly programm and totaled 129,53 points. Their coach Oleg Rykin said " It was a very strong technical skate. Shari and Christian got level 3 for their step sequenze and level 4 for their spins and lifts. I`m satisfied with them both. As well as Christian all of sudden fell down. But that can happen. Now we are preparing for a competition in the Czech Republic and for the Germany Championships." Valeriya LOSEVA / Denis LUNIN could their last year`s result. They put out a solid performance to Chacha and Samba music and scored 127,48 points.

Victory Ceremony Junior

Two german pairs are currently amongst the first 3 places after the Senior Short Dance. Tanja KOLBE / Stefano CARUSO (GER) won the Short Dance and collected 53,01 points. The couple is blogging about NRW Trophy. Their coach, former italian ice dancer Barbara Fusar-Poli, mentioned that her couple is always in competition with Carolina and Daniel Hermann "In Nice we Tanja and Stefano edged out Daniel and Carolina and came in fourth while Daniel and Carolina finished 6th. But NRW Trophy is another competition and I wish everybody good luck." Fusar-Poli said.
Sara HURTADO / Adria DIAZ (ESP) came in second and Carolina HERMANN / Daniel HERMANN (GER) are currently ranked third. "We are pretty happy that we could improve our performance in comparision to our last competition in Nice. We love to compete in our favorite ice-rink in Dortmund. The support at the ice-rink is amazing. Thank`s a lot to the audience who cheered for us. We are looking forward to the Free Dance tomorrow." Daniel Hermann told us.

Ksenia KOROBKOVA / Daniil GLEIKHENGAUZ of Russia took the lead in the Junior Short Dancen. Shari KOCH / Christian NÜCHTERN (GER) placed second and Russia's Valeriya LOSEVA / Denis LUNIN finished third. KOROBKOVA / GLEIKHENGAUZ collected 54,08 points, KOCH / NÜCHTERN earned 53,50 points and LOSEVA / LUNIN captured 53,49 points. "We are satisfied with our performance as well as it wasn`t our best. One Step sequence was a bit wobbly which took us one level, I assume. But as there`s no big gap between the first three pairs everything is possible in the Free Dance tomorrow. We will do our best." Shari Koch explained.

As Russia is a strong Ice Dancing nation 5 russian pairs lead the result list of the category Advanced Novice. Eva KHACHATURYAN / Igor EREMENKO danced off with the gold medal. Yulia DOLGIKH / Alexander PRACHANOV claimed the silver medal and the bronze went to Sofya POLISHCLUK / Alexander VAKHNOV.
DOLGIKH / PRACHANOV danced to some crazy saxophone music and emphasized their music with their yellow costumes with a saxophone on the costume of Yulia. Overall they scored 74,74 points and put out a solid program. Eva KHACHATURYAN / Igor EREMENKO who came second in the last years competition totaled 78.29 points and overtook their teammates. They danced to spanish flamenco music and impressed with difficult lifts. Irina Zhuk, the coach of the to russian pairs underlined that they always want to create a small show for the audience with their performances.
Sofya POLISHCLUK / Alexander VAKHNOV racked up 71,62 points overall and earned the bronze.

We are happy to welcome you at the ice rink once again. Today NRW Trophy continues with the Junior and Senior Short Dance as well as the free Dance of Basic Novice A & B, Junior and Advanced Novice.
We will upload all vidos of todays competition to our youtube channel. Have a look at our Video Section. So you are able to enjoy all programs even if you are not in Dortmund.

Today the youngest athletes opened the competition and already put out very strong performances. Jade MARCHAL / Theo LE MERCIER of France captured the Basic Novice A Pattern Dances (26.26 pt.) with Emma ARNDTS / Franzisko MERTON (18,24 pt.)finishing in second.
Russia's Ksenia KONKINA / Georgy REVIYA skated to the lead in the Basic Novice B Pattern Dances (30,03 pt.). Eva ZAPOROZHSKYA / Alexander BALYKOV of Russia (RUS 28.05) and Estonia`s Valeria STEPANOVA / Andrei SOKOLOV (22,98) came in second and third.
To the delight of the homecrowd Polina GORLOV / Eduard VISHNJAKOV of NRW/Germany took the lead in the Short Dance Basic Junior. Leah-Magdalena STEFFAN / Benjamin STEFFAN (GER) are less than three points behind in second place and Germanys Nana MALONNEK / Luis PORZELL are sitting in third.
At the moment the category Advanced Novice is dominated by russian pairs. Place 1-7 is captured by young couples of Russia. Yulia DOLGIKH / Alexander PRACHANOV grabbed the lead followed by last years Basic Novice champions Sofya POLISHCLUK / Alexander VAKHNOV and Eva KHACHATURYAN / Igor EREMENKO. After the russian pairs, two german pairs lie in the waiting line. Thanh NGUYEN / Theo BAUTA and Loreen GEILER / Sven MIERSCH from Chemnitz are currently ranked 7th. and 8th. Their coach Susan Fichtelmann underlined the high level in the comptetition: "The russian team is strongly represented in all categories. The Trophy is a good possibility to compare with pairs of different nations. I am very satisfied with my couples, they did a good job. It`s hard to compete against the russian pairs but we try to minimize the gap between them and our couples in Germany. The Trophy itself has grown to a very high leveld competition in the last years. I attended the Trophy for many years now and I like the place and the organization here. For me as a coach with pairs in different catgories I spend a lot of time at the ice rink and Dortmund is not the worst place for it."
NRW`s ice dancing coach Vitali Schulz reported about a high level competition with many strong and beautiful performances. He said "The russian pairs are really strong, because they have the possibility to focus on their training and to excercise up to three hours a day. In Germany that`s not possible because of the school system. I observed the Practice Time of the category Basic Novice in the morning and could recognize, that there are some young couples who even plan to do some level 4 elements in the free skatin. That`s a very high level for such young couples."
